The Affordable Housing Committee is partnering with David Fink of the Partnership for Strong Communities in an effort to educate the people of Middlesex County on the need for more affordable housing in our state.  Along with committee members, David has been traveling to the Chamber’s divisions and giving PowerPoint Presentations on exactly why it is vital that the residents of Middlesex County, and the state of Connecticut as a whole, have access to more affordable housing. 

David Fink is the Policy and Communications Director for the Partnership for Strong Communities. In that role, he is the staff director of the HOMEConnecticut campaign, which is seeking solutions to the shortage of housing affordable to workers, young professionals, families and others across the state.  David has so far visited with the East Haddam/Haddam Division and the Chester/Deep River/Essex Division and will be visiting with the Portland Division and the Westbrook Division in May.

HOMEConnecticut is the statewide campaign aimed at increasing the stock of affordable housing in Connecticut. HOMEConnecticut's Steering Committee of 40+ leaders in business, banking, academia, land use, government, law, advocacy, and housing development worked together in 2006 to create a legislative proposal for the state of Connecticut's 2007 legislative session. Known as the Connecticut Housing Program for Economic Growth, the goal of HOMEConnecticut's proposal is to foster housing and economic growth based on responsible planning and local control.  The Program uses incentives to encourage municipalities to create overlay zones where higher density development is allowed and mixed-income housing is included. 

The Affordable Housing Committee and the entire Middlesex Chamber is thrilled to be working with David and the people at the HOME Connecticut campaign on this very important issue to the business community.
