I am pleased to announce that United States Senator Christopher Dodd is speaking to the Chamber this morning. It is always such a pleasure to have Senator Dodd come address our members and I want to thank him for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to the business community in Middlesex County. This event is sponsored by Liberty Bank, and I’d like to give a big thanks to them for their constant willingness to support such important events like this one. Liberty Bank has been a great member of ours for years and we appreciate all that they do for the community of Middlesex County. I am so proud of Senator Dodd. His role in Washington D.C. is one of great importance, and he has done an excellent job representing his constituents. He is well respected and greatly admired for all that he does, and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful man as our Senator. As you know, Senator Dodd is the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Housing, Banking and Urban Affairs. As Chairman, Senator Dodd is an outstanding leader. He sets the committee’s agenda and leads the charge on the consideration of many important pieces of legislation. He has been a member of this committee for 26 years and has always worked hard to protect consumers and their investments. His second year as Chairman will continue to focus on helping working families and protecting our nation’s economic security. Senator Dodd will be meeting with several bank presidents following the breakfast meeting. His role as Chairman of the Banking Committee is crucial to the overall well being of our working families and the protection of our nation’s economic security. He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which has jurisdiction over our country’s health care, education system, employment and retirement programs. Within this committee he is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Children and Families, which has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues including Head Start, the Family Medical Leave Act, childcare and child support, and other issues involving children, youth, and families. Senator Dodd also sits on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps and Narcotics Affairs. He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, where he is responsible for the oversight of the procedures and rules of the United States Senate. Despite his important role and his packed calendar, his door is always open and he is there to listen to the issues and concerns of his constituents. A great man, a great friend and a great leader, I know I am not alone when I say that Middlesex County is proud to have Senator Chris Dodd representing us each day in our Nation’s Capitol. I’d like to thank Senator Dodd for his outstanding leadership and support that he recently gave to United Technologies, Pratt and Whitney and Boeing. The current fleet of the Air Force’s tanker planes is getting old and needs to be replaced with new tankers. Senator Dodd fully supported the acceptance of Boeing’s bid, which would allow Pratt and Whitney to assemble the craft at the Middletown plant. When I asked for Senator Dodd’s support I got it, and he has been heartfelt and dedicated to this issue, which I appreciate so much. I’d also like to thank him for the effort he put toward getting $200,000 for the Girls House at the Children’s Home of Cromwell. The dedication that he has for his work with children and families is admirable, and because of him the Children’s Home has benefited greatly.
